The Lam Family at Carlsbad, California - August 3, 2008

My cousin, Jeffrey, was very selfless and kind and drove me all the way out to Carlsbad to visit Buffalo Bros. Guitars where I had the chance of a life-time to play the best-sounding guitar I have ever laid my hands on, a Goodall RCJC: www.buffalobrosguitars.com/images26000-26999/ngb26300-goo.... Afterwards, Jeffrey, his wife, Lyndsay, their son, Ethan (their daughter Ella was with her grandparents that weekend), and I headed to the beach and had a fun time photographing the family. Ethan was unstoppable and usually struck up a cute pose when given the chance. Lyndsay is an aspiring photographer herself -- if you're in the California area and are looking for someone to capture photographs of your children (and the rest of your family), you can find her at mama2ethan.multiply.com. She's a lot of fun to work with and has two children of her own! As you can see, Ethan is a growing, energetic, little boy who loves Lightning McQueen from Disney Pixar's Cars (more on that later)! He has the most adorable and unforgettable way of saying "Uncle Chris" I have ever heard. I now know how Silvana of Impulse Photography feels when she says, "I wanted to "scrunch" them up in a little ball and put them in my pocket"! Nikon D80 with 18-135mm Normal Large JPG -- a minimalist set-up to try and prove to myself that it's the photographer, not the camera that matters. P.S. Thanks goes to Erik Clausen's influence: why not place your watermark somewhere that helps aid the photographs' composition?

Victor and Sophia's wedding is coming up next month! The weather today was very foggy and the visibility was very low. In fact, Victor had to keep cleaning his glasses every few minutes and Sophie's hair became dripping wet from all the humidity. Nevertheless, Victor and Sophie were good sports and braved through the weather. Thanks goes to Ryan Lau Photography for allowing me to second-shoot. Kitty's Bachelor of Social Work Convocation at Ryerson University- June 2008

A collection of photographs of friends and family taken on Monday, June 16th at Ryerson University celebrating Kitty's convocation. The Social Work group of students was one of the rowdiest and energetic I had ever experienced at a convocation ceremony. They cheered for forever and very loudly too! It's always fun to see so much energy. We had lunch at The Pickle Barrel before the ceremony started. Sam and I sneaked into the theatre without tickets and got first row seats too! When we got outside, it was perfect weather, but then it started to rain for a bit, so you'll see a few frozen raindrops in some photographs. After that, the sun came out again and it was perfect lighting for some great photographs! Afterwards, a few of us went back to Kitty's place for a hot pot dinner extravaganza. Cindy dropped by to give Kitty her present and also to wish Lili a happy farewell :) It was all very cute. Congratulations, Kitty :D Nikon D80 with 18-135mm, 70-200mm VR f/2.8, and SB-800 Speedlight Normal Large JPG.

1) A trip to Atlantis at Ontario Place for some practice with Glendon and Helen :) Thanks goes to Helen for being such a great sport. Also, you guys will get a glimpse at Kitty's sad face that makes me die a little inside every time she uses it on me -- I think you will see why. Nikon D80 with 18-135mm, SB-800 Speedlight Normal Large JPG and with Glendon's new 50mm f/1.4 (a.k.a. Helen) and SB-600 Speedlight.
2) The family went on the "annual weekend of gluttony" trip from June 27th to 29th at BlueMountain Resort near Collingwood, ON. Oddly enough, it wasn't as gluttonous as it has been in previous years; which could be a good thing! I learned that you're supposed to have 5 servings of vegetables each and every day ... have you gotten 5 yet? Some old family friends were there that weekend too! Nikon D80 with 18-135mm, SB-800 Speedlight Normal Large JPG.
3) Redeemer Chinese Evangelical Free Church's (RCEFC) Summer Conference was held at Redeemer University College at Ancaster, ON. You will get to know those ... boys ... a little more. Nikon D80 with 18-135mm, SB-800 Speedlight Normal Large JPG. 4) Joyce Chew's convocation celebration. A small group of us gathered together at Starbucks Coffee for a bit of banter where we all got introduced to "Chill-eh", an adorable penguin with quite a bit of style and class! We then proceeded to Terroni for some Italian food. It was dark in there and I didn't want to blind others with flash. Kitty and I had a smoked salmon pizza and assorted bruschetta. Lili is heading off to Hong Kong for a year, about 20 of us gathered together upstairs at the new Destiny Tea House and Restaurant to send her off with lots of gifts, hugs, and good friends. Campus Challenge 2008 was held at Tyndale University College and Seminary from May 16th to 19th in Toronto. You can learn more at http://campus-challenge.com/2008/ I had the honour of serving in worship music ministry this year with some legendary lead worshipers as well as drummer extraordinaire, Jeff Pak. You can view the Jeff Pak drum cam at http://www.youtube.com/godafrid Kitty was amazingly supportive all weekend long by supplying aloe vera drinks, citron tea, Halls, instant noodles, water, and hugs! She also grabbed my camera and took lots of great shots this weekend! This year’s Campus Challenge was very different from previous Campus Challenges, but serving on the worship team has always been such a great blessing. University group time was the best :) Another highlight was on the second day of Bible study through the book of Acts lead by Al Anderson of Inver-Varsity Christian Fellowship: he was saying, “Seven times in the passage he writes, you killed Jesus, you killed Jesus, you killed Jesus, seven times! But then He rose from the dead into life by the power of the Holy Spirit, He’s seated at the right hand of God above, and He has sent His Holy Spirit down to make lots of little Jesus’ on the earth. You killed Him, you killed Him, you killed Him, He came back to life, and now He’s immortal! Good job!” I just grinned really big and laughed: our risen Lord Jesus Christ is alive and well! My last ACF Year-End Banquet on Friday, April 4th at Best Western Lamplighter Inn, The Regency Room. It still feels odd being a graduate and having to leave this wonderful group of loving, God-fearing people. The graduates had a brutal performance, but I hope that you all enjoyed the lyrical content nevertheless :) The old exec built up all the excitement to "nothing" :D The new exec made a great beginning video where Sarge was the President. Yikes. The second years had an elaborate plan, which I had a lot of fun helping them out with :D I enjoyed receiving lots of presents and not having to do too much work :p Justin Chia still somehow got better sirloin steak than I did! I apologize for the harsh light in the first few shots; then again, near the end, my SB-800's batteries started to die. Nikon D80 with 18-135mm, 70-200mm VR f/2.8, and SB-800 Speedlight Normal Large JPG.

Many thanks to Western's Korean Christian Fellowship for putting in all the hard work of planning and putting together such a great pot-luck! Asian Christian Fellowship was able to relax and enjoy the company of our fellow brothers and sisters at London Korean Christian Church (LKCC). There was more food than we initially thought, a great turnout, and good times had by all. ACF learned some new (extremely violent) games from KCF, shared some great food, consumed a lot of pop, and met some people that we had not known before. It was good to see people that I had not seen in a long time such as Diana Chow and Jennifer Cho! Many, many, many people got to play with my camera that night. Nikon D80 with 18-135mm, 70-200mm VR f/2.8, and SB-800 Speedlight Normal Medium JPG. I didn't like the white balance that night, I could never figure it out correctly -- the fluorescent lights make people look green.

On Saturday, February 2, 2008, many gathered at Chapman Court for a pot-luck to enjoy the company of Samuel Ng before he headed off to Switzerland for his exchange. Samuel always has a great positive energy. Tonight was fun-filled with lots of quality food, "testosterone"-filled games, and lots of good company. God speed, Sam. My camera battery died (as I hadn't recharged them since before ACF Winter Retreat), plus Charis and Yvette also got to toy with my camera.

From December 29th to 31st, Kitty and I had the opportunity to go to Shalom by the Lake with her church, Redeemer Chinese Evangelical Free Church. The theme was "Anointing" and Pastor Ian spoke with authority about it from Samuel to David. It was an enjoyable time with some amazing food. I was awestruck by the Chinese congregations' willingness to sacrifice their weekend to come prepare meals for a rowdy bunch of youngsters. They made authentic Chinese food including curry beef brisket, turkey congee, and much much more! Many people had a chance to play with my camera that weekend, so not every picture is taken by yours truly. Nikon D80 with 18-135mm and SB-800 Speedlight Normal Medium JPG. My first time using the new "Christopher Luk Photography CLP" logo shown in this album.

Asian Christian Fellowship had a Bible study photo hunt on Friday, October 19th, 2007. Each of the 8 small groups were given a list of passages from the Bible that equated to a story. Stories included Jonah and the Whale, Moses and the Ten Commandments, the Valley of Dry Bones, Lazarus' Resurrection, Moses and the Burning Bush, and many more. Small group JOY won the challenge and were awarded prizes. This album also contains some other images from the fellowship so far this year. Various people's cameras used for the Small Group Bible Study Photo Hunt. Various images from different small group get-togethers are found here as well as many other Friday night ACF get-together images. Michael Seto's untitled EP album images.

Kitty and I had the privilege of joining Korean Christian Fellowship (now owned by IVCF) for their annual Ontario campus-wide Christmas banquet at La Gondola Banquets and Catering on Friday, December 21st, 2007. It was a fun night with some hilarious video presentations, well-rehearsed, funny, and heart-hitting dramatic performances, food that was shared among many, and a few games. I thought their idea of partnering with Living Rock Ministries to gather non-perishable food items was a great idea. It was nice meeting a couple people from McMaster KCF at our table! They are wonderful people. I apologize for the low quality of the pictures this time around -- I forgot to attach the "Peter Gregg Feather-light" to give me more forward light! I tried using a Stofen Omnibounce for some. Nikon D80 with 18-135mm and SB-800 Speedlight Normal Medium & Large JPG.

Calvin Leung invited Glendon Tang (professional photographer haha ) to The Beach School, a non-profit, independent, democratic decision-making, and self-initated learning school, to photograph its unique attributes and inner workings. I was lucky enough to have the honour of tagging along as the secondary photographer. We had a good time photographing things from ballet lessons to snowball fights to Super Smash Brothers gaming to Halo novels. Within the games rack we found something very special ... a travel-sized Settlers of Catan board game set. Unbelievable. Hopefully Glendon will have some comments to add. Glendon lent me his SB-600 as a secondary wireless flash for some of these shots. Nikon D80 with 18-135mm, SB-600 & SB-800 Speedlights Normal Medium JPG.

On Wednesday, December 5th, 2007, Western's Asian Christian Fellowship gathered at St. Luke's Anglican Church on Richmond Street in London, ON for their annual Christmas pot-luck dinner. People came ready to share with a great selection and delicious assortment of food including, salads, cafeteria food, authentic Chinese dishes, chicken curry (I'm always a sucker for good curry), gingerbread houses, and so much more great food (most of which I don't know what it's called)! Thanks to everyone who helped make this night memorable and efficient. This was one of our last times getting together officially for this year. It makes me sad. Justin Chia, Simon Ng, and Karen Chow did a great job leading us in some Christmas carols. Of course, "12 Days of Christmas" was just plain wacky fun. Nikon D80 with 18-135mm and SB-800 Speedlight Normal Medium JPG.
